i graduated from lanzhou university in 1986 and obtained a ph.d in plant cell and molecular biology in the university of birmingham, uk, in 1996. from 1997-1998, i worked as a sta (science and technology of japan) postdoctoral fellow in the institute of fruit tree science , and from 1999-2003, as a researcher in the institute of advanced industrial science and technology (aist), japan . i became a full professor of shandong university in november, 2003.





research interests


  


extremophiles are microorganisms that live in extreme environments, including environments with high temperature, low ph, high ph, and containing high concentration of salts etc. archaea, the most abundant extremophiles, possess information processing systems similar to that of euryarchaeota but in much simplified forms. therefore the study of archaea will help us understand the origin and nature of life, and to reveal the mechanism of dna replication, repair and recombination in euryarchaeota, which has become complicated during evolution. extremophiles can also provide us with more stable catalysts for industrial application.





the research areas in our lab include:


1. microbial resources from extreme environments, such as hot spring and deep see vent;


2. biochemistry of archeal hyperthermo-stable carbohysrate metabolizing enzymes and their application;


3. the molecular mechanism of dna replication, repair, and recombination in archaea.


(1) mre11/rad50 mediated dna recombination in sulfolobus;


(2) dna replication in nanoarchaeum equitans , a recently found archaeon representing a new phylum;


(3) recombinational repair of dna in sulfolobus.


4. crystal structure analysis of thermostable enzymes in carbohydrate degradation and dna


replication.

the research in our group is supported by three major grants: a sub-project of a national program for basic research of china (973) (2004-2008), two projects from the national science foundation of china (nsf) (2005-2007, and 2006-2008, respectively).

古菌 dna 复制、修复和重组的分子机制,极端环境微生物资源与极端酶的研究与利用。目前承担国家重点基础研究发展( 973 )计划子课题“ 极端嗜 热 古菌 dna 修 复 与重 组 机制” 一项 (2004 - 2008) 。国家自然科学基金面上项目:“极端嗜热古菌 dna 复制、修复和重组酶的研究” (2005 - 2007) 和 “超嗜热古菌特有几丁质酶系研究” (2006 - 2008) 两项。
